Keep Your Home Energy Efficient This Summer
April 12, 2018 0 Comments
April weather in Loveland and Northern Colorado can be a lesson in patience. Days can be warm (when it’s not snowing) and nights are typically still very cool. On the warmer days it can feel like you could turn on the air conditioner, but then at night, you’re stuck freezing waiting for the furnace to heat up your bedroom. This back and forth doesn’t seem very efficient, does it? So during the spring (but it still feels like winter) and summer (but still feels like spring) seasons, how do you keep your home energy efficient? Here are some tips from the air conditioning experts at Ace Hi Plumbing, Heating, & Air.
If you need any air conditioning maintenance or repairs done, be sure to give us a call today. Our friendly, professional, and experienced technicians will come to your Loveland home to get the job done, get it done right the first time, and offer affordable prices.
Program the Thermostat
There are several air conditioning and heating systems available that let you program the temperature settings. When you’re away at work, set the thermostat between 60 and 65 degrees in the winter and set the air conditioner between 75 and 80 degrees during the summer. To ensure that you’re not burning or freezing when you get home, you can set it to automatically cool or heat the home an hour before you arrive at home. When you have found a comfortable temperature, keep it there.
Check the Program
After some time of using the program, be sure that it’s consistently changing the temperature as you want it to. When it’s not functioning properly, schedule an air conditioning maintenance appointment for a checkup.
Clean the AC Unit
As you can probably guess, when the system isn’t thoroughly cleaned regularly, it won’t function efficiently. Take a look the systems indoor and outdoor coils and the air filter. Cleaning the coils and replacing the air filter will keep air moving efficiently and will help prevent dust and dirt from building up in the unit.
Upgrade the System
If your Air conditioning or heating system is older than 10 years, it might be time for an upgrade. Wear and tear that occurs over time can cause the system to run less efficiently. And with more modern products, you could see a rise in energy savings.
Check Your Windows
As the weather in Loveland does warm up, you’ll want to keep as much hot air out of your home as possible. Consider installing shutters on your windows that will provide better protection from the sun.
Seal Any Air Leaks
Whether it’s the windows, doors, attic, or basement, any leaks in the surfaces will allow air to move around. When hot air is entering your cool home, it will cause the air conditioner to work harder, leading to higher energy costs. By insulating walls and the roof, and sealing any leaks, you can protect the environment in your home.
