Not Flushing the Tank

Over time, sediment and minerals can accumulate in the tank of your water heater, reducing its efficiency and leading to premature wear and tear. To avoid this, you should flush your water heater at least once a year. This can be done by attaching a garden hose to the drain valve, running the hose outside, and turning on the valve to allow any sediment to be flushed out.

Not Insulating Hot Water Pipes

Insulating your hot water pipes helps to keep the hot water at a consistent temperature and also helps reduce the amount of energy needed to heat the water. Without insulation, the hot water can cool quickly and cause your water heater to have to work harder to reheat the water.

Setting the Temperature Too High

Many people set their water heater temperature too high, thinking it will provide hot water more quickly or that it is safer. Unfortunately, this can actually cause accelerated wear and tear on the water heater, as well as increase your energy bill. The optimal temperature for a water heater is 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ignoring Corrosion and Leaks

Corrosion and leaks on your water heater can be an indication of bigger problems. If left untreated, these problems can cause your water heater to fail prematurely. It is important to inspect your water heater regularly and address any corrosion or leaks as soon as they are detected. If you suspect an issue with your hot water heater, call Ace Hi Plumbing right away for an inspection or water heater repair.
