Tips For Saving on Electric During the Winter

October 25, 2016 0 Comments

cold4In our last blog post, we covered a few of the ways that can help you save some money as we enter the cooler months here in Colorado. From changing the direction that your fan is spinning to the types of thermostat that you use to monitor your HVAC unit, there are still quite a few other ways that you can see your electric bill lower this season. Here are a few more tips from the team of HVAC professionals at Ace Hi.

Place Furniture Wisely

The vents in your home are the only way to ensure that air continues to flow throughout and that your home maintains a comfortable temperature. While they aren’t always placed in positions that make a ton of sense for the way that your house is laid out, the only way to ensure that the airflow is maintained is by placing furniture away from the vents so that the air can continue to flow. By keeping furniture far enough away for the airflow to maintain temperature, your furnace isn’t having to do more work. This is also incredibly important for the well-being of the unit as a whole. When furniture blocks up the vent, there is more air that gets pushed through the other vents, which can destroy the air vents or create further damage because of built up air pressure.

coldInstall a Door Sweep

While HVAC units and a furnace can contribute to how comfortable your home is, there are plenty of other factors that go into how comfortable your home is. One of the primary ones that we need to worry about as homeowners is the efficiency of our home.Efficiency is noted in the insulation of our home, the quality of the siding on the exterior and the thickness of the window panes. While these are all fairly pricey projects to take on, one of the easier things that you can do to improve the efficiency of your home is adding a door sweep to your front door and any other door that goes directly outside. If you have an older door, then you may not have one to begin with or the door sweep may be so old that it doesn’t really do much of a job in preventing warm air from escaping. These are pretty affordable to purchase and extremely common in most hardware or home improvement stores, so it shouldn’t take much to take advantage of this tip.

In the case that you are still noticing electric bills that are through the roof, you can have a member of the Ace Hi team in Fort Collins check out your HVAC system and furnace and see if there are any noticeable areas that we can improve upon.
